It has become a popular holiday destination for many years. It is located on the southwest part of the main island Viti Levu with easy access from the coastal Queen’s Highway running between Nadi and Suva.

Therefore, accommodation options vary from budget resorts up to five star accommodations. Aside from resorts along the coastline, there are hotels, villas, apartments, cabins where you can stay. Dive operators, cruises, and bed and breakfast packages are also provided.

The Yasawa Islands are a group of islands located at the northwest part of Fiji. There are approximately 30 resorts in 12 major islands in Yasawa. These resorts provide basic accommodation and meals accessible to nature and communities.

Awesome Adventures Fiji is a company that serves as the primary transport throughout the Yasawa Islands from Nadi. Local taxis can take you to Yasawa cheaper on short trips and when the weather is fine but the Yasawa Flyer or the ‘Yellow boat’ (Awesome Adventures Fiji) is best for long trips. Their office is in the main street and they can help you book and plan itineraries.

Yasawa islands are beautiful and well-preserved. Hiking, snorkeling, and diving are the most common natural activities around the area.

If you came by the Yasawa Flyer, it will pick you up during its daily run to take you to another island. A 7, 14, or 21 day ‘Bula Pass’ includes your fare for this pick-up ride. Otherwise, you will pay 45 to 70 FJ dollars to hop to another island. When the weather is clear, you can take a local water taxi. Some resorts pick up guests from current resorts without charging. Otherwise, you will pay 5 to 15 FJ dollars. The fare charges are negotiable especially for those travelling in groups because while the rides charge per head, the greater the number the greater the chance for discounts. You have to be a caveat that “Fiji Time” allows the culture for a more laidback, slow responses. Make sure you are loaded with a lot of patience to enjoy your holiday.

You can snorkel and dive. Some islands offer spectacular snorkeling sites close to the beach with very cheap rates. Most islands like Wayalailai have good hiking spots where you can climb to peaks to see the sun rise. Guides are available if you desire company. There are people on the islands who teach basket or bracelet weaving with palm fronds and banana leaves. Kava ceremonies are held inviting guests to join. You may even ask locals to show you plantations of bananas, papayas, mangoes, breadfruit, cassava, and many other plants and crops. You can go to a Cave trip where you can dive through a tunnel 30 cm deep and 1.5 meters long to see underground caverns. Day trips will let you visit local villages and schools and go fishing or snorkeling.

You can enjoy food based on sparse plates and buffets, serves of high carbohydrate meals, and vast balanced meals with buffets to suit all appetites and preferences. Locals generally think people prefer chicken so make sure to inform the cook if you like fish. Beef is relatively expensive and is not very common. If you are a vegetarian, make sure to explain your food preferences in very good detail. Inform the chef or the cook of your dietary preferences in great details so you can enjoy the food on your holiday.

Water supply is generally from rain, springs, or imported from the mainland. Some resorts provide water for free while others sell it for 4 to 5 FJ dollars for 1.5 liter bottles. Fiji Bitter or Fiji Gold beer is in plentiful supply. A variety of other forms of alcohol and cocktails are also supplied.

Awesome Adventures Fiji can help you find accommodation packages if you want help with accommodations. Accommodation varies from sparse rooms at Barefoot, western-style private rooms with toilets, hot showers and secure doors and windows at Nalova Bay. Most resorts have night activities. Salt and fresh water mixed showers are common. Remember that many properties do not accept credit cards or travelers cheques – just cash.

It is widely known to be one of Fiji’s most unspoilt islands cradling a lush rainforest and exotic wildlife earning it a Kadavu reputation that is one of Fiji’s most beautiful islands.

Kadavu is considered to have 75 percent of its original rainforest cover and a rich bird diversity including 4 species widespread all over the island. Kadavu is among the least developed areas of Fiji with fewer roads and a local economy that is largy dependent on subsistent farming.

Daily flights to Kadavu are available. One is from Nadi, others are seaplanes and a ferry service from Suva. The Kadavu Island offers a variety of quality accommodation from budget resorts, eco resorts, to lavishly appointed resorts, all suitable for varied tourist needs and preferences.

The island offers some of the world’s best diving areas with the Great Astrolabe Reed stretching its mighty coral formations along the eastern side. Beneath the pristine waters, you will find excellent visibility of the gardens of hard and soft corals, vertical walls, caves, and brilliant tropical fish of astounding number of species. The unspoilt and positively prehistoric landscapes are found just below Viti Levu’s southern coast in a flourish of garden green. The Great Astrolabe Reef skirts the group and finds its way into the uppermost islands giving you some of the finest diving in the Pacific.

On the other hand, the land holds the lush rainforest, mountain ranges, bush trails, and waterfalls that are a delight to the hikers and even the locals. Guides can show you the rare birdlife unique to the island like the Kadavu parrot.

Blessed with the world-renowned Astrolabe Reef, Kadavu homes a number of resorts catering to scuba divers. Positively prehistoric landscapes are found just below Viti Levu’s southern coast is a garden of emerald green. The lush and pristine rainforests especially that found on the east is a truly marvelous sight. The Great Ast

Visiting Kadavu must have its highlights. If you are an avid diver, you should explore the Great Astrolabe reef. Meet the locals and find out how they have maintained such a beautiful paradise. Go trekking and inland hiking. Surf the breaks of Cape Washington. Dive with the manta rays and sharks at the Naiqoro passage. And sea kayak with Tamarillo Expeditions. You will never be left empty-handed.

Dive Kadavu Matana is an authentic Fiji dive resort that caters mainly to divers. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere will be your first welcome and your great start for a great diving experience.

Other resorts around the Kadavu are the Koromakawa Resort, Papaneno Resort, Kenia Beach Resort, Matava Resort, and Tiliva Resort.

The Kadavu was sighted by the first British naval captain William Bligh in 1792. The place is volcanic in origin and is bisected by a central mountain ridge with fertile slopes. It rises to a peak at Mount Washington or Ndelainambukelevu. Timber and other cultivated crops like bananas and copra are found in the central and eastern areas. Visit the main town and capital Vunisea on the western coast. Kadavu’s population is almost entirely Melanesian.

The Sun Coast includes islands in the northeastern coastal areas of Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji. Sun Coast, from the name itself, is a place of abundant sunshine, scuba diving, and beautiful views. The place hosts numerous accommodation options, attractions, tours, transport, and visitor information.

There is abundance in natural and cultural sites in this region with major tourism spots for sightseeing tours.

Discovering Sun Coast is the best places to experience deep traditional Fijian culture. Villages and settlements are scattered throughout the hills of the islands including Abaca, Barotu, Vatukacevaceva, Bukaya and Navala. Each have their own picturesque nature walks, native rainforest, waterfalls, archaeological sites, horse riding spots, and swimming areas.

You will find a coffee factory at the Naocobau village overlooking the Vatu-i-ra passage.

The Sun Coast is the origin of the Fijian history and the home of all ancestral gods. The area is still imbedded with rich culture, traditions, myths, and legends. The different villages still hold unique beliefs closely.

Archaeological evidence studied from food-waste reveals that cannibalism was observed in Viti Levu 2500 years ago until the mid to late 1900s. A society founded on ancestor worship and belief in the afterlife, cannibalizing a family’s enemy was said to be the best revenge considering the lasting insult to the enemy’s family. Udeudre’s Tomb is found in Vaileka town. He was said to be Fiji’s most notorious cannibal consuming a number of 872 enemies.

Visit Koroyanitu National Heritage Park. It is ideal for nature lovers and trekking with its beautiful nature walks, native rainforests, waterfalls, archaeological sites, and swimming. The park includes a full-day hike to Mt. Koroyanitu and the remains of a fortified village. You may hike for 2 hours to the terraced gardens at Tunutunu and the Navuratu village site. An hour climb will take you to the summit of Castle Rock with the panoramic views of the Mamanucas and Yasawas. And a 2-day hike will let you experience the highland villages’ ends at Mt. Batilamu with amazing views of Nadi Bay.

The Naiserelagi Catholic Mission has founded The Church of the Black Christ. It is 25 kilometers east of Rakiraki at Naiserelagi. The church was built in 1917 and is famous for a mural illustrating a black Christ by the making of the French artist Jean Charlot in 1962.

The Nananu-i-ra island offers visitors a myriad of outdoor pursuits especially those associated with crystal clear tropical waters, swimming, diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing or kite surfing. World class diving spots can be found at the Vatu-i-ra passage and the Bligh Waters. You can also participate in other activities like nature and rainforest treks, cultural treks, fishin, and ocean kayaking.

The Nausori Highlands shows off scenic landscapes and remote villages with many interesting traditional beliefs and culture. The Navala Village is Fiji’s most scenic inland village that is nestled on a sloping site on the banks of the Ba River. Most villagers prefer building homes of concrete blocks and corrugated iron construction because of its sturdiness, but all the houses in Navala are traditional bure. Local buses go from Ba to Navala daily.

There are several tours to experience: waterfall tours, meet the chief tour, pearl farm tour, mineral water, beef farming or Udreudre graveyard tour, mountain climbing tour, trekking, shopping trip to Suva and Viti Levu tour.

From the Nadi International Airport, helicopters are the most expensive way to get to the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. Getting to Mamanuca from the Denarau Marina is the most popular route. The marina is 20 minutes away from the Nadi International Airport by land. Free bus rides from major resorts around Nadi and from the airport to Denarau Marina can take you; you may ask the concierge for information. Port Denarau is the home to many luxury hotels and resorts like Sheraton, Westin, Hilton, and Radisson.

Luxury catamarans seating approximately 150 people take several hours to get you to Mamanuca destinations. They are usually air-conditioned matched with meals available for purchase on board.

A water taxi or Seafiji are also means of transport around the islands in aluminum catamarans. They are the most affordable transportation for groups with the same destination point.

Fiji’s cuisine features a munificent number of seafood dishes. Apart from seafood cuisine, many may not be familiar with Fiji’s cuisine history that includes Indian dishes introduced by Indian laborers in the late 1800s to the early 1900s.

You should try Kodoka. It is a Fijian delicacy similar to ceviche or Hawaiian poke. The ingredients include raw fish marinated in lemon juice and coconut milk and matched with pepper, onion, and tomato. For soup, Rourou is smooth and creamy blended to taro leaves and coconut milk. Fresh tropical fruits can be enjoyed. There’s papaya, plantains, mango, and pawpaw to name a few.

Port Denarau is the main jump-off point to the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. You should experience a day-trip to Beachcomber island for lunch beach, watersports, snorkeling and scuba diving. The sea life must not be missed as you will witness astoundingly healthy corals and a spectacular wealth of sea life even with its proximity to busy resorts and boat routes. Visit a dive shop on Beachcomber Island for your diving needs. Blacktip reef sharks are known to be around the area, but are not deemed dangerous. They grow to around a meter in length.

The North and South beach of the Mana island is perfect for snorkeling. One of the best diving spots is the Supermarket which is close to the Mana where you can see sharks.

For accommodation, there are numerous options. The Beachcomber Island is popular for its name as the “party island” because of common young travelers who seek excitement and entertainment every night like Beachcomber’s “Bula Dance”. Another resort is the Bounty Island resort.

Ratu Kini and Mana Lagoon are backpacker resorts costing 50 FJ dollars including 3 meals. A couple dozen of bures that served as the stage can still be found as remains of the Survivor TV show can be found south of the island. You can snorkel nearby reefs with snorkeling equipment fees.

If you are looking for tranquility, go to Matamanoa Island. Take note that guests under the age of 12 are not admitted. You can simply lay on the beach or by the pool, snorkel, scuba dive, kayak, or hike to the top of the island. The Resort Walu Beach is just a few steps from the water’s edge on Malolo Island. It’s secluded so you can enjoy privacy in the delight of stretched golden sand with tall palms and lush gardens.

The Mamanuca Islands are secluded, freeing them from the danger posed by thefts. The dangers come from nature so it is important to wear sunblock and stay away from rocky reefs and dangerous sea creatures. Mind the waves when you go for a swim.
