Kadavu is the 4th largest island in Fiji which is a home to 10,000 people and an area of 411 square kilometers which is approximately 45 miles south of the capital city of Suva. It is widely known to be one of Fiji’s most unspoilt islands cradling a lush rainforest and exotic wildlife earning it a Kadavu reputation that is one of Fiji’s most beautiful islands.

Kadavu is considered to have 75 percent of its original rainforest cover and a rich bird diversity including 4 species widespread all over the island. Kadavu is among the least developed areas of Fiji with fewer roads and a local economy that is largy dependent on subsistent farming.

Daily flights to Kadavu are available. One is from Nadi, others are seaplanes and a ferry service from Suva. The Kadavu Island offers a variety of quality accommodation from budget resorts, eco resorts, to lavishly appointed resorts, all suitable for varied tourist needs and preferences.

The island offers some of the world’s best diving areas with the Great Astrolabe Reed stretching its mighty coral formations along the eastern side. Beneath the pristine waters, you will find excellent visibility of the gardens of hard and soft corals, vertical walls, caves, and brilliant tropical fish of astounding number of species. The unspoilt and positively prehistoric landscapes are found just below Viti Levu’s southern coast in a flourish of garden green. The Great Astrolabe Reef skirts the group and finds its way into the uppermost islands giving you some of the finest diving in the Pacific.

On the other hand, the land holds the lush rainforest, mountain ranges, bush trails, and waterfalls that are a delight to the hikers and even the locals. Guides can show you the rare birdlife unique to the island like the Kadavu parrot.

Blessed with the world-renowned Astrolabe Reef, Kadavu homes a number of resorts catering to scuba divers. Positively prehistoric landscapes are found just below Viti Levu’s southern coast is a garden of emerald green. The lush and pristine rainforests especially that found on the east is a truly marvelous sight. The Great Ast

Visiting Kadavu must have its highlights. If you are an avid diver, you should explore the Great Astrolabe reef. Meet the locals and find out how they have maintained such a beautiful paradise. Go trekking and inland hiking. Surf the breaks of Cape Washington. Dive with the manta rays and sharks at the Naiqoro passage. And sea kayak with Tamarillo Expeditions. You will never be left empty-handed.

Dive Kadavu Matana is an authentic Fiji dive resort that caters mainly to divers. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere will be your first welcome and your great start for a great diving experience.

Other resorts around the Kadavu are the Koromakawa Resort, Papaneno Resort, Kenia Beach Resort, Matava Resort, and Tiliva Resort.

The Kadavu was sighted by the first British naval captain William Bligh in 1792. The place is volcanic in origin and is bisected by a central mountain ridge with fertile slopes. It rises to a peak at Mount Washington or Ndelainambukelevu. Timber and other cultivated crops like bananas and copra are found in the central and eastern areas. Visit the main town and capital Vunisea on the western coast. Kadavu’s population is almost entirely Melanesian.
