Nadi is a center for transit to visit multiple destinations in Fiji. You may find some wonderful little places while awaiting ferries, boats to other islands, or planes to another destination. When you are going to stay in Nadi, you will experience being coaxed by store staff members to visit their shops as you tread the main street. These people do not pose threats but it is common for people to be told to beware of pickpockets.

Make sure you watch your valuables. A great local bus service is available. You can travel with the locals in an open-air comfort where you will have to pay part of the price of the hire car together with all the other passengers. The buses are marked on the front stating the two towns they travel to and fro. A tourist can always ask the driver where it will take you and you can inquire if it goes to the place you desire to visit. The Nadi Bay Hotel is accessible to a local bus that heads straight to Nadi town.

The buses come every quarter hour costing only 50 FJD cents one way to the town. Cabs have their hometown written on the front bumper of their taxis. When they are travelling back to their hometowns, they are not allowed to charge above the fares for buses.

It is also possible for you to have a fixed fare arrangement with the taxi driver before getting to your destination. This means it is wise to ask the concierge at the hotel you are staying on estimated price ranges for you to reach a certain location. Taxis can be flagged down or you can find them at taxi stands. It is recommended to take public transportation than renting a personal car for safety reasons. However, rental cars are available at the airport. A valid driver’s license is required and the driver must be of certain age depending on the taxi rental company. The average rate is 100 FJD dollars. You can go to Lautoka to visit this real Fijian city. You can drop by the Capricorn Hotel located at the middle of Nadi airport and Nadi town at 8pm from Thursdays to Sundays where you can sit under the bungalow and listen to a group of Fijians playing traditional and modern songs with their guitars and ukuleles. You may just be coaxed to try the kava drink. Islands worth a visit would be the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands via ferry at Port Denarau. The Nadi town market will offer you lots of handicrafts, fruits, and lots of fresh produce!

You can choose to go to the Hindu Temple located at the southern end of Nadi’s main street. It’s beautifully painted and is the largest you will find in the Pacific. The Wailoaloa Beach is in the northern area of Nadi where you can find beach clubs and resorts. The Newtown Beach can be accessed by the public and is only 10 minutes bus ride away from Nadi town. Visit the Nadi Garden of the Sleeping Giant that houses various beautiful plants you can view for a 10 FJD dollars entrance fee.
