The Yasawa Islands are a group of islands located at the northwest part of Fiji. There are approximately 30 resorts in 12 major islands in Yasawa. These resorts provide basic accommodation and meals accessible to nature and communities.

Awesome Adventures Fiji is a company that serves as the primary transport throughout the Yasawa Islands from Nadi. Local taxis can take you to Yasawa cheaper on short trips and when the weather is fine but the Yasawa Flyer or the ‘Yellow boat’ (Awesome Adventures Fiji) is best for long trips. Their office is in the main street and they can help you book and plan itineraries.

Yasawa islands are beautiful and well-preserved. Hiking, snorkeling, and diving are the most common natural activities around the area.

If you came by the Yasawa Flyer, it will pick you up during its daily run to take you to another island. A 7, 14, or 21 day ‘Bula Pass’ includes your fare for this pick-up ride. Otherwise, you will pay 45 to 70 FJ dollars to hop to another island. When the weather is clear, you can take a local water taxi. Some resorts pick up guests from current resorts without charging. Otherwise, you will pay 5 to 15 FJ dollars. The fare charges are negotiable especially for those travelling in groups because while the rides charge per head, the greater the number the greater the chance for discounts. You have to be a caveat that “Fiji Time” allows the culture for a more laidback, slow responses. Make sure you are loaded with a lot of patience to enjoy your holiday.

You can snorkel and dive. Some islands offer spectacular snorkeling sites close to the beach with very cheap rates. Most islands like Wayalailai have good hiking spots where you can climb to peaks to see the sun rise. Guides are available if you desire company. There are people on the islands who teach basket or bracelet weaving with palm fronds and banana leaves. Kava ceremonies are held inviting guests to join. You may even ask locals to show you plantations of bananas, papayas, mangoes, breadfruit, cassava, and many other plants and crops. You can go to a Cave trip where you can dive through a tunnel 30 cm deep and 1.5 meters long to see underground caverns. Day trips will let you visit local villages and schools and go fishing or snorkeling.

You can enjoy food based on sparse plates and buffets, serves of high carbohydrate meals, and vast balanced meals with buffets to suit all appetites and preferences. Locals generally think people prefer chicken so make sure to inform the cook if you like fish. Beef is relatively expensive and is not very common. If you are a vegetarian, make sure to explain your food preferences in very good detail. Inform the chef or the cook of your dietary preferences in great details so you can enjoy the food on your holiday.

Water supply is generally from rain, springs, or imported from the mainland. Some resorts provide water for free while others sell it for 4 to 5 FJ dollars for 1.5 liter bottles. Fiji Bitter or Fiji Gold beer is in plentiful supply. A variety of other forms of alcohol and cocktails are also supplied.

Awesome Adventures Fiji can help you find accommodation packages if you want help with accommodations. Accommodation varies from sparse rooms at Barefoot, western-style private rooms with toilets, hot showers and secure doors and windows at Nalova Bay. Most resorts have night activities. Salt and fresh water mixed showers are common. Remember that many properties do not accept credit cards or travelers cheques – just cash.
